Do you feel self-conscious about your smile because of the condition of your teeth? Many people have overcrowded or crooked teeth. Unfortunately, no amount of good dental hygiene will fix crookedness, since it is usually genetic. While you can’t change how your teeth grow in, you can change the way your smile looks.
Move Past Wire Orthodontics
Traditional metal braces can be an effective way to straighten teeth, but many people want a more discrete option. Luckily, you can change your smile without metal braces with the SureSmile system. These braces are perfect for adults with mild to moderate orthodontic problems.
At Broadway Dental of Pearland, we provide SureSmile as a straightforward, effective way to re-shape your smile, without the annoyance of metal braces.
With SureSmile, teens and adults can get a straighter smile and feel more self-confident. Discover more about how SureSmile works by calling our office to request a consultation.
HOW DOES SURESMILE WORK?
Traditional braces use metal wires to slowly adjust your teeth and jaw. While these braces are useful, they aren’t a good fit for everyone. Many people want to avoid the discomfort and clunky appearance of metal braces. Metal braces are more obvious, and they can be uncomfortable to wear.
While people with severe orthodontic problems will likely need metal braces from an orthodontist, there is an alternative for many patients with less intense dental issues.
For people with minimal to moderate orthodontic issues, SureSmile is an alternative option to achieve straighter teeth. SureSmile uses custom-made aligners, which look like removable retainers, to move your teeth. The aligners are created just for you in a special lab. You’ll need to use new aligners every couple of weeks as your teeth change position.
Instead of wearing clunky metal braces and having them adjusted every month or so, you’ll receive clear aligners that move your teeth over time. You’ll still need regular visits to our office as your teeth move, but these visits are just to track your progress.
SureSmile is more durable and effective than Invisalign. Instead of 3D printed trays, the trays are made out of a harder plastic. This prevents broken aligners and the need for micro adjustments.
Removable and Comfortable
We will take digital scans of your mouth during your appointment and send these to the SureSmile lab to ensure an efficient process. This means you’ll get custom-made braces that are comfortable for you to wear.
The other major benefit of SureSmile braces is that you can remove them. While you still need to wear the aligners most of the day and night, you can take them out to eat and brush your teeth, which helps ensure good dental hygiene throughout the process.
SureSmile Treatment Steps
If you have questions about the SureSmile braces process, you can always give our office a call. The good news is that these clear braces are easy to use and the process is straightforward and painless.
The steps of SureSmile treatment are as follows:
- Assessing your smile: First, Dr. Allouch will examine your teeth and use advanced dental technology to create a 3D model of your mouth. This process is pain-free and quick. We don’t need to take putty impressions of our teeth since we can use the 3D scan.
- Creating a model of your mouth: Using the 3D model of your teeth and mouth, Dr. Allouch will develop a treatment plan. Computer technology allows him to determine the desired end result for the best health and cosmetics. He will devise a treatment plan based on the aesthetics and function of your smile.
- Receiving the aligners: Dr. Allouch sends the 3D models to a lab. The lab uses the digital images to craft custom clear aligners. After two to four weeks, you’ll receive your first set of aligners. You will get a couple of your aligners at a time.
- Wearing the aligners: Generally, you’ll wear these aligners for a few weeks. You should wear them for at least 22 hours a day. If you don’t, it will take longer to move your teeth.
- Attending follow-up visits: Finally, you’ll attend follow-up visits with Dr. Allouch. During these appointments, you’ll receive new digital scans so that the lab can create new aligners as your teeth shift. These visits usually only take about 15 minutes and are minimally invasive.
While SureSmile takes around 6 months to 2 years to move your teeth into the desired position, the SureSmile aligner process is straightforward and doesn’t take much time out of your busy life. Learn more about the treatment by reaching out to Broadway Dental of Pearland.
What Are the Pros of SureSmile?
Many patients love SureSmile because this system offers great results without many of the downsides of traditional braces. While traditional braces are effective, they also make it difficult to chew, speak, and enjoy certain physical activities. SureSmile can offer many of the same advantages of traditional braces, without all of the disadvantages.
Some of the benefits of SureSmile include:
- Improved smile appearance: The main benefit of SureSmile is a more uniform smile without crooked or uneven teeth. With straighter teeth, you’ll feel more confident in your smile.
- Removable and convenient: While traditional braces can also improve the look of your smile, only a dentist can remove them. With SureSmile, you can take the aligners out to clean your teeth or eat, making them more comfortable and much easier to maintain.
- Efficient results: While each person is different, most people only need SureSmile for around 12–18 months. The process still takes time, but it elicits effective results in a reasonable time frame.
Caring for SureSmile Braces: 5 Tips
Many patients love that they can remove the SureSmile aligners. While this is a convenient benefit, you also want to ensure you ucare for your dental hygiene and your aligners.
Here are five tips for taking care of your aligners and your teeth while wearing SureSmile braces.
- Wear them consistently: Wearing your SureSmile aligners for 22 hours per day is vital. While you can take them off occasionally for eating and brushing your teeth, consistent use is the only way to shift your teeth. If you don’t wear them as directed, you may not get the smile you want, and the process can take much longer.
- Brush and floss your teeth normally: You should take off the aligners to clean your teeth. This is one of the advantages of SureSmile; you can maintain your normal dental hygiene routine. Remember to brush throughout twice per day and floss at least once a day.
- Gently wash the aligners: You should also keep your aligners clean. You can rinse them with a soft-bristled brush once per day. For a deeper clean, consider a denture cleaner or a mild soap. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or toothpaste.
- Remove them to eat or drink: To keep your teeth as healthy and bright as possible while wearing clear aligners, always remove them to eat or drink. However, you can keep the aligners while drinking water.
- Receive regular dental cleanings: While wearing SureSmile, you’ll also want to visit our office for routine dental cleanings and exams. Most people should get their teeth cleaned around every six months, although some patients require more frequent visits.

Am I a Good Candidate for SureSmile?
Now that you know all about SureSmile, you may wonder if these braces are right for you. To be a good candidate for SureSmile, ensure that you:
- Have mild to moderate orthodontic concerns: If you have major issues with your jaw or bite, other options, such as metal braces, may be necessary.
- Are committed to wearing the aligners: For SureSmile to work, you must wear the clear aligners around 22 hours per day. If this isn’t something you can commit to, SureSmile might not be the right treatment choice for you.
- Don’t have underlying conditions such as gum disease: If you have existing dental health problems, such as gum disease or cavities, you’ll need to treat them first. Dr. Allouch provides these services, so he can help you get to a point where SureSmile is a good option.
- Care about your dental health and hygiene: Along with wearing the braces consistently, it’s also important to value your dental health. You’ll need to take good care of your teeth during the treatment process. If you don’t, you could end up with cavities or gum disease.
Even if you’re not currently the right candidate for SureSmile, Dr. Allouch can address underlying dental issues, including gum disease and cavities. Once these concerns are addressed, you can start using SureSmile to enhance and improve your smile.
