If you want to improve or maintain good dental hygiene and a beautiful smile throughout the year, you can follow some simple tips. It doesn’t take much time or effort to help prevent dental issues and improve the appearance of your teeth.
At Broadway Dental of Pearland, Dr. Andrew Allouch and the team want to support you in your goals and resolutions. So, we’ve put together this guide to five dental health tips to start your new year off right with beautiful pearly whites!
5 Dental Tips for the New Year
Dental hygiene doesn’t have to be a big chore. Most of the things you can do to maintain your smile are straightforward and only take a few minutes out of your day.
Here are five easy steps for recommitting to your oral health:
Get Serious About Brushing
While you probably know brushing your teeth is important, make sure you are doing so effectively.
You should hold the brush at a 45-degree angle along the gum line and use small, circle motions to brush every surface of your teeth. Use a fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled brush. Don’t forget to brush your tongue.
Remember to Floss
Many people forget to floss, but it’s critical to removing bacteria and build-up between your teeth.
Use dental floss and wind it around both of your middle fingers. Then, hold the floss tightly between the thumb and index finger. Glide the floss up and down between two of your teeth. When you reach the gums, make a C-shape with the floss and glide it back up.
Consider Your Diet
What you eat impacts your health in many ways, including your dental health. Be sure to eat a healthy, balanced diet full of vegetables, fruits, and a balance of proteins and carbs. You also want to stay hydrated and avoid too many sugary or hard foods that could damage your teeth.
Stop Smoking or Tobacco Use
Tobacco use has many negative impacts on your teeth and mouth. Smoking can increase the risk of gum disease and oral cancer. Smoking also makes you more likely to develop cavities.
If you currently smoke or use tobacco, we recommend that you work with medical professionals to quit smoking.
Attend Check-Ups at the Dentist
Finally, don’t forget to visit our office for routine visits. Most people should see the dentist for regular cleanings and exams every six months, but some people need to see us every three to four months.
Along with cleanings, we also offer fluoride treatments to protect your teeth from decay and cavities. We can assist you with specific tips on which products to use and how to improve your dental health.
